Bristol, United Kingdom – Russia today launched a rare daytime aerial attack on Ukraine, hitting sites across northern and western regions of the country. Today’s attack is being viewed as an attempt to exhaust Ukrainian air defences during a time when air defence systems are in short supply across the world, after Iranian attacks on US and European countries’ allies in the Middle East.
Russian forces’ attack on Lviv included targeting the Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Bernadine monastery, a Greek Catholic church situated in the city centre, has sustained major damage after it was hit by a kamikaze ‘Shahed/Geran-2’ drone.
Over the last 24 hours, Russian forces have sent nearly 1,000 suicide drones into Ukraine, including 550 during daylight hours. The Ukrainian Air Force claims to have successfully shot down 541 of these drones. Despite this, hits have been recorded across the country.
